Jessica Pegula has advanced to her first doubles final since splitting from Coco Gauff, her enormously popular partner.

After the Olympics, the Americans broke up to concentrate on their solo careers, though Pegula has since competed in three events alongside other players.

Additionally, her new partnership with Asia Muhammad is working well; the unseeded pair has advanced to the Wuhan Open title match.

Together, Pegula and Gauff claimed five championships, and they both peaked at No. 1 in the world doubles rankings. Their primary objective was the Olympics, but they were unable to secure a medal there.

After the Paris Games, both players had said clearly that they would cut back on their doubles schedule, and they did just that. Pegula has found success with other lovers despite her breakup with Gauff.

Together with Giuliana Olmos, the 30-year-old made it to the Canadian Open quarterfinals this summer. She has advanced to the Wuhan Open final alongside Muhammad.

To get to the title match, the all-American team defeated Leylah Fernandez and Aldila Sutjiadi on Saturday in the semi-final. Pegula later complimented Muhammad for “carrying” the team.

The singles world No. 3 said: “I mean it was a really tough match. I think all of us were serving really well so for me I had to make a few more returns but Asia I feel like carried us today, she played great.”

Pegula and Muhammad will now face either Anna Daniilina and Irina Khromacheva or Ekaterina Alexandrova and Katerina Siniakova, who will face off in the second semi-final later on Saturday.

Muhammad added: “I know we’re going to go out there and have fun. Hopefully we can play well, I think we were really solid today. We’re going to give our best effort.
