The Texas men’s basketball team’s lineup for the 2025–2026 campaign will be significantly altered under new head coach Sean Miller, who was hired from Xavier.
Earlier this week, the Texas basketball program officially announced the hire of new head coach Sean Miller early this offseason. As the Texas men’s program turns the page to a new chapter after three seasons under Rodney Terry at the end of the 2024-25 campaign this spring, Miller has the task of rebuilding the roster going into the upcoming season for 2025-26.
The Longhorns have some key pieces in the core part of the rotation who could return for another season in 2025-26 in the backcourt unit. Junior guard Chendall Weaver and senior guard Tramon Mark highlight the key Longhorns players who have eligibility to return for another season for Texas in 2025-26 this offseason.
The Longhorns anticipate a number of players to declare their intention to transfer out of the program and join the NBA Draft early because the spring portal window started on Monday, March 24. A few athletes from Texas also used up all of their eligibility when the 2024–25 season ended this spring.
G. Tre Johnson
Tre Johnson, a rookie guard, is without a doubt the Longhorns’ most significant roster departure in terms of starting lineup this summer. Johnson is anticipated to be selected in the 2025 draft lottery this summer.
Johnson has not yet formally announced his intention to declare early for the 2025 NBA Draft, although it is highly probable that he will do so this summer after the Longhorns’ 2024–25 season ends.
Texas’s new head coach, Miller, said this week that Johnson “needs to go” to the NBA Draft since that was the original expectation when he was recruited to Texas with the 2024 class.
Arthur Kaluma, F
Forward Arthur Kaluma is one of many Longhorns’ players in the frontcourt rotation who exhausted their eligibility following the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. Kaluma was arguably Texas’s most consistent two-way starter in the frontcourt during non-conference play a few months ago.
Kaluma was a critical source of secondary scoring and paint rebounding for the Longhorns in the season that was. He led the team in rebounding (7.5 rebounds per game) and ranked second in scoring (12.3 points per game).
During the latter stretch of the Longhorns’ season, Kaluma’s play was hindered by a lower-body ailment that limited his time on the floor.
Shedrick Kadin, C.
In recent years, senior center Kadin Shedrick has been a member of the Longhorns’ frontcourt rotation while attending Texas for his last two seasons of collegiate eligibility. For the Longhorns down low, Shedrick increased his contributions this past season in paint scoring, rebounding, and rim protection.
Shedrick finished his collegiate career at Texas with three consecutive double-figure scoring games, including consecutive 14-point outings in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals against Tennessee a few weeks ago and the overtime victory against Texas A&M.
This past season was the first time that Shedrick was the full-time starting center for every game he played for the frontcourt at Texas and Virginia since 2021.
