After a four-star revealed his decommitment on Tuesday, head coach Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks are down to five recruits in the 2026 class. After rebuilding the program last season, Beamer and company are again on the recruiting road. South Carolina just had its greatest season under head coach Beamer, who is starting his fifth season in charge, and its first nine-win campaign since 2017.
Recruiting against the perennial powers is no easy task, though, and the Gamecocks have some ground to make up following the abrupt decision by blue-chip cornerback Peyton Dyer. Dyer (6-foot, 190 pounds) plays for Duluth (Georgia) High School and is ranked as the No. 27 corner in the class and the No. 39 player in the state, per 247Sports composite.
He had been committed to South Carolina since November before backing off his pledge on Tuesday (On3). Dyer is coming off an unofficial visit to the USC Trojans over the weekend.
This summer, Dyer will make formal trips to Georgia (June 13) and USC (June 6). Additionally, he had originally planned a June 20 trip to South Carolina, which might give the Gamecocks another chance to push. As of right moment, South Carolina has five 2026 promises. South Pointe High School’s four-star J’Zavien Currence, one of the nation’s best safeties, leads the bunch. At his position, the in-state product is ranked as the fifth best player.
The Gamecocks will host their annual spring game on April 18, an event that usually serves as a major recruiting opportunity. It wouldn’t be a surprise for Beamer and staff to receive some good news there after wrapping up the spring period.
