A Good Signing For Howe: An Update On Newcastle United’s Pursuit Of This Leicester City Winger

In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Rudy Galetti offered an update on Newcastle United and their pursuit of Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes. Galetti said,

“Unless there’s a twist, the next week will be decisive for Barnes to Newcastle.

“Discussions are ongoing at a good pace and Eddie Howe wants Barnes. Despite the talks being at a good stage between West Ham and Leicester, Harvey Barnes prefers to join Newcastle and he has already agreed the terms of his move.

“Now it’s up to the clubs, as Newcastle are willing to pay around £35m for the English player. As told, during the next week the deal could be finalised.”

Barnes’ Difficult Season At The King Power Stadium

Barnes had a tough campaign at Leicester City after he failed to keep them in the Premier League. Still, the talented winger did well to put in a few impressive performances for the East Midlands club in the final third.

The 25-year-old found the back of the net 13 times and earned three assists in 40 appearances for the Foxes last season in various competitions. Barnes caught the eye by averaging 2.1 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he was guilty of being a bit untidy with his ball distribution as he completed only 73.5% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

Barnes’s current deal at Leicester will run out in the summer of 2025. Still, the Magpies should be optimistic about their chances of securing his services after Leicester’s recent relegation from the English top flight.

Will Barnes Be A Good Signing For Newcastle United?

Barnes is a good dribbler with the ball and can engineer a few decent opportunities for his teammates to score. He can strike the ball with power and precision from long range but needs to figure out a way to be more unforgiving in front of the opposition goal.

The English talent will add more pace and goals to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s attack. He might even help the Magpies challenge for a major trophy or two in the upcoming campaign.

Hence, Barnes would be a great signing for the Tyneside club this summer. He already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take any time to settle into life at St. James’ Park.
