David Moyes’ side are keen on signing Manchester United defender Harry Maguire this summer as they look to reinvest into the squad following Declan Rice’s departure for Arsenal. Leicester winger Barnes is also said to be a target for the Gunners, with Newcastle still keen but ‘yet to place a bid’.

Eddie Howe cut a frustrated figure following the pre-season win over Gateshead given the lack of arrivals at the club this summer. Interest in Barnes dates back to last summer but the Magpies are yet to make an approach with Howe claiming nothing was close.
