West Ham United Are In Talks To Recruit This Fulham Ace: What Will He Bring To East London?

In a recent tweet, talkSPORT stated that West Ham United are in talks to recruit Fulham ace Joao Palhinha this summer. It has been mentioned that the Hammers are hoping to land the Portuguese midfielder after losing Declan Rice to Arsenal recently.

Palhinha’s Impressive Form In English Football Last Season

Palhinha had a solid campaign at Craven Cottage as he put in a series of impressive performances at the centre of Fulham’s midfield. The 28-year-old scored four goals in 40 matches for the Cottagers last season in all competitions.

The Portuguese midfield ace gave a good account of himself by averaging 4.2 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 1.7 clearances and 1.1 shots per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He was even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 83% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Fulham will run out in the summer of 2027. Therefore, West Ham will have to make a sizable offer if they want to recruit Palhinha.

What Will Palhinha Bring To West Ham United?

Palhinha is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are the front foot and can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. Palhinha mainly plays as a holding midfielder but can also function as a central defender if told to do so by his manager.

The Portuguese talent is a tidy passer of the ball but can sometimes lack the pace to make recovering runs at the back. Hence, he will be a great fit for David Moyes‘ brand of football at West Ham United.

We can expect Palhinha to bring more quality to the East London club‘s midfield. He would even serve as an ideal replacement for Declan Rice who left the Hammers to join Arsenal recently.

With all things considered, Moyes would be wise to try everything in his power to bring Palhinha on board during this summer transfer period.

At 28, he has entered his prime and knows the Premier League well by now. Hence, he is well-equipped to make an instant impact at West Ham next season.
