‘Caring and loveable rogue’ killed in Wrexham bakery crash named

The father-of-two was driving a car that collided with Gerrards Bakery in the early hours of Monday morning

Police have named the man who died when a car crashed into a bakery building in Wrexham. Dad-of-two Ryan Anthony Bagnall, 26, was described by his family as a “caring and loveable rogue”.

They paid tribute to him following the collision in Wrexham during the early hours of yesterday morning (Monday, July 17). Ruthin Road was closed until lunchtime as emergency services attended the incident at Gerrards Bakery.

Mr Bagnall, from the Gwersyllt area, was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital but he died shortly after arrival. A female passenger was also taken to the Maelor before being transferred to Royal Stoke University Hospital, which has a major trauma unit.

North Wales Police said she remains in hospital with “significant injuries”. The force has renewed its appeal for witnesses to the collision.

Mr Bagnall’s family are asking for privacy but they have released a tribute. They said: “Ryan was a caring and loveable rogue.

“He was a devoted dad to his two girls and he’ll be missed by all his family and friends. We now ask for privacy whilst we grieve.”

Gerrards Bakery on Ruthin Road, Wrexham

North Wales Police were called at 2.21am following reports a white Vauxhall Corsa had hit the front window of Gerrards Bakery on Ruthin Road. The bakery and a nearby property were badly damaged in the incident.\

Sgt Steve Richards of the NWP Roads Policing Unit is again asking for the public’s help as investigations continue. He said: “Despite this collision happening during the early hours, we continue to urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who may have dash cam or CCTV footage to contact us.”
