West Ham United’s loan offer for Harry Maguire has been rejected by Manchester United
According to The Sun (h/t Manchester Evening News), West Ham United have seen a loan offer turned down for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.
Maguire recently confirmed the club’s decision to strip him of the club’s captaincy, which further led to speculations that the England International could be on his way out.
Maguire has fallen down the pecking order under Erik Ten Hag and is behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof.
It feels like the end of the time for a player who was brought for a considerable fee and was immediately made captain upon his arrival.
Maguire’s time at United has been nothing short of a disappointment, especially the last couple of seasons where he has looked like a shadow of the player that he was at Leicester City, which led the club to baulk on paying the huge fee for him.
This situation has brought the attention of other clubs who are willing to give Maguire a second chance to reintegrate his career with West Ham making the first move.
However, the London club would have to come back with better terms if they want to sign Maguire as a loan deal would not be the ideal scenario that United wants.
The club would want to recoup some of its money spent to acquire Maguire and with two years left on his contract, it does provide United with some leverage to ask a decent fee for an England International.
His not having a place in the Red Devils’ squad doesn’t mean he can’t be a top defender elsewhere. He was a hit at Leicester City and there’s no reason why he can’t recover his form at another stable Premier League club.
