According to report: A £20 million agreement is expected to be struck between Tottenham Hotspur and the Blackburn Rovers defender.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to snap up Blackburn Rovers defender Ashley Phillips in a deal worth around £3million.

Ashley Phillips is on the verge of joining Tottenham Hotspur in a £3million deal from Blackburn Rovers.

That is according to the London Evening Standard, who claim that a medical has now been set for Phillips.

The Blackburn defender is expected to join Tottenham imminently and it’s a bargain price at just £3million.

Maybe there will be add-ons as well, but Tottenham have pounced with a deal for the 18-year-old centre back.

It’s stated that Phillips is seen as a player for the future rather than an immediate first-team player.

That means that Phillips joining Spurs won’t impact Tottenham’s push for a first-team defender with two targets on the radar.

Bundesliga duo Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba – of Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen respectively – remain top targets.

Phillips is coming in though and Spurs will believe that he can become a star in the coming years.

Phillips started out with non-league side Curzon Ashton before joining the Blackburn Rovers ranks at a young age.

The 6ft 4in centre back only turned 18 in June but has already played 14 first-team games for Rovers.

A regular for England across various youth levels, Phillips is being backed for a big future.

Phillips has been branded ‘phenomenal’ by Tony Mowbray, who saw his development at Blackburn before heading to Sunderland.

Tottenham actually wanted Phillips last year; The Mail claimed that Spurs were on the verge of a deal before Phillips ended up staying put at Ewood Park.

Less than a year on, Blackburn are seemingly losing Phillips with Tottenham set to pounce once and for all.

£3million seems like a cheap and calculated move for Tottenham, who may be tempted to loan Phillips straight out to allow him to continue playing senior football.
