Tottenham and Barcelona are in advanced negotiations over massive defender

We reported last weekend from Spain that Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced talks to sign Clément Lenglet.

The 28-year-old spent last season on loan at the north London club, who hope to sign him permanently this summer.

According to a ‘secret’ report from Sport, the defender’s move to Tottenham is on track after he’reached an agreement’ on a three-year contract. This fueled speculation that his departure was impending, although this was not the case.

Despite the fact that conversations between the clubs have been ongoing, little progress has been made in this operation.

That’s because Barca considered Spurs’ offer to be low and stood firm to demand €15m for the centre-back. They are of the belief other clubs could meet their request. This, as per Sport, is a ‘dangerous move’.

It’s not clear whether or not the Catalan club are bluffing but the report states they ‘risk blowing up everything’ since retaining Lenglet would be a significant blow in their efforts to lower their wage bill.

Tottenham and Barcelona are “talking,” but if the former signs another center-back, the Camp Nou club will have a “big problem.” This would imply that the Spurs have the upper hand in acquiring Lenglet and should stand firm.

According to Sport, the Frenchman is Marseille’s “great dream,” but he “prioritises” a move to the Premier League, where Spurs are interested. As a result, the Ligue 1 team has shifted their emphasis to Barcelona’s Eric Garca.

To summarize, the Catalan newspaper suggests that Barcelona change their attitude in order to allow Lenglet to join Tottenham.
