Fabinho Al Ittihad transfer confirmed as Liverpool midfielder leaves for Saudi Arabia

Fabinho has left Liverpool to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad in a £40m deal

Fabinho’s move from Liverpool to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad in a £40million deal has been confirmed.

The Brazilian midfielder will have Nuno Espirito Santo, formerly of Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur, as his new manager and N’Golo Kante and Karim Benzema as team-mates after signing a three-year contract with the club.

This transfer follows Jordan Henderson’s recent switch to Saudi Arabia, which saw the 33-year-old agree to join Al-Ettifaq and link up with Steven Gerrard.

Fabinho has played a key role in Liverpool’s recent success since arriving from Monaco in the summer of 2018, helping Jurgen Klopp’s side end their 30-year wait for Premier League glory while also claiming a sixth European Cup.

Fabinho looks to be on his way out of Liverpool

He made a total of 49 appearances last season for the Reds, enduring a challenging campaign from a personal perspective, and featured a total of 219 times for the club during his five-year stay.

Fabinho initially joined Liverpool as part of a £43.7m deal, fending off competition from Manchester United in the process, and exits with the Reds recouping close to the full figure first paid to secure his services.

The 29-year-old was one of several first-team members who signed a new contract at Anfield during the summer window of 2021, committing to the club until 2026. This association has now been cut short earlier than anticipated, as also proved to be the case with Henderson.

Work is already ongoing to source a Fabinho replacement and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia remains a priority target for Liverpool.
