According to reports, a transfer from West Ham United to Chelsea will cost £180,000.

West Ham United are closing in on signing Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez despite interest from London rivals Chelsea.

Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez is now nearing a move to West Ham United which could net him a hefty wage packet.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday evening that West Ham have sent a first offer of around £30million for Alvarez.

Romano adds that Alvarez is ready to fly to England for a medical as soon as he is given the green light.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg adds that the final fee for Alvarez is now expected to be around £35million, just a shade over West Ham’s first bid.

Plettenberg believes that a five-year contract is ready for Alvarez at West Ham and the talks between the two clubs have been ‘very good and respectful’.

The Daily Mail also suggest that Alvarez is poised to sign a deal worth around £148,000-a-week before tax.

The Hammers clearly believe that Alvarez can be a big difference-maker in midfield and are willing to pay him suitably.

Edson Alvarez feels like a coup for West Ham United

West Ham simply had to splash the cash on a new midfielder this summer having sold Declan Rice to Arsenal.

The plan seems to be for West Ham to sign two midfielders; one anchor man and one ball-carrier in an attempt to replicate Rice’s influence.

Alvarez would be the former, a defensive midfielder who can protect the West Ham back four and free up others to go forward.

The 25-year-old is a powerful force at 6ft 2in tall and has shown the ability to break up play for Ajax.

Alvarez seemed set for a move to Borussia Dortmund but that deal collapsed back in June according to De Telegraaf.

That gave West Ham new hope of a deal but The Times reported just a few days ago that Chelsea were back in the hunt for Alvarez after missing out last summer.

West Ham appear to be closing in though and the hope is that Alvarez can become a dependable midfielder in East London.
