QPR looking to strike deal for Sunderland man, reporter claims

QPR are looking to add Sunderland centre-back Danny Batth to their ranks, reporter Alan Nixon has said on his Patreon.

QPR are in the market for more centre-back recruits after adding Steve Cook to their ranks on Wednesday night.

A poor opening day of the season showed just how much work the R’s have left to do in the transfer market. They were dismantled 4-0 by Watford, conceding within a minute of the season’s start.

Now, reporter Nixon has said another centre-back is on the shopping list.

It is said that Sunderland man Batth has emerged as a target in West London as they look to add more options at the heart of defence. The 32-year-old had been linked with Blackburn Rovers earlier this summer but that move has not come to fruition at this stage.

Batth remained an unused substitute in Sunderland’s tie with Ipswich Town but played all 90 minutes and captained the Black Cats against Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday.

The centre-back hunt

QPR have been linked with countless centre-backs this summer as Gareth Ainsworth looks to bolster his options at the back. They’ve still entered the season short of options at the back though with Jimmy Dunne sidelined and Jake Clarke-Salter unavailable.

Summer signing Morgan Fox started alongside youngster Joe Gubbins on the opening day but the hope will be that Cook is the first of a couple new additions at the heart of defence.

Batth’s experience would prove valuable for Ainsworth. He’s proven himself as a valuable servant during his time at Sunderland and the leadership he has displayed during his time at the Stadium of Light could make him a key player at Loftus Road if a move was to materialise this summer.
