News now: World Cup winner believes Spurs have just signed a teenage ‘phenomenon’

Tottenham Hotspur may have just lost a legendary striker in Harry Kane, but the club has also just signed a ‘phenomenon’ in the form of Alejo Veliz, according to a World Cup-winning Argentinian.

New Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has quickly added ready-made quality to his first team, with the acquisitions of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, and Manor Solomon this summer.

It seems Spurs are also keen to recruit new and emerging talent for the future during the current transfer window, too.

So far this summer, Tottenham have acquired young centre-half Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers in a deal worth a reported £2m (BBC).

The club followed that up by signing Argentine striker, Alejo Veliz, from Rosario Central in a move thought to be worth around £13m (Football.London).

While Veliz is not expected to be a direct replacement for Harry Kane just yet, there are high hopes for the young striker. He scored 11 goals in the Argentine top division last term before joining Tottenham (Transfermarkt).

According to Daniel Bertoni, who won the World Cup with Argentina in 1978, Spurs have found themselves a real gem of a player.

Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb, Bertoni praised the signing of his compatriot, saying: “Congratulations to Tottenham, who took Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central. For me, [Veliz is] a phenomenon.”

Tottenham boss, Postecoglou, has already revealed how happy he is with his new player. “He’s got a lot of talent for a youngster. He’s got a great profile. He’s a big guy but he’s very mobile and he works hard,” the Australian told Football.London.

It will be intriguing to see just how much game time Veliz gets for Spurs this year, if indeed he does stay with the club for the season.

You just never know with these kinds of talents whether they could immediately explode in the Premier League, or if they will need more time.
