Tottenham boss name Three reasons why Eric Dier would be a great signing for Celtic

With transfer rumours ramping up for Celtic over the past few days, the Hoops support will be all be discussing whether the names mentioned so far, will help to improve the overall squad.

So far, Ryan Fraser, Quentin Merlin, Eric Dier and Daniel Podence have all been linked to Celtic. Throughout the day, 67 Hail Hail has been running the rule over most of these names.

We have already addressed Ryan Fraser and Daniel Podence. Now, it’s the turn of Eric Dier. The Spurs defender has been out of the picture at White Hart Lane and it seems that the door is open for him to leave the club.

With Cameron Carter-Vickers’ latest injury scare, Brendan Rodgers may well need to add another defender to his ranks and here is why Dier would be an ideal signing for Celtic.

At 29 years old, Dier has plenty of experience behind him. He has made over 420 career appearances in total. The majority of these (361) were in the English Premier League where he has come up against some of the best strikers in the world.

He has captained Tottenham at various stages in his career and helped them reach, and appeared in, the 2019 Champions League Final against Real Madrid.

Dier also has huge experience at international level with England. He has 49 caps for his country and has also captained his country at various stages of his England career. Dier has also featured in the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2016.

The experienced centre-back is also very versatile. Before Spurs purchased Victor Wanyama, Dier was deployed as a defensive midfielder. He has also been known to play right-back on occasion and has had the odd foray into centre midfield. His versatility could prove crucial during an injury crisis.

And lastly, and probably most importantly, he managed to keep Cameron Carter-Vickers out the Spurs first team. Carter-Vickers has been an absolute rock at the heart of the Celtic defence over the last two seasons.

If Dier has managed to keep him out of the side then that tells you a story within itself. Of course, wages and a fee would be an obstacle for Celtic to negotiate but Dier would add something special to this Celtic side.
