Wrexham draw 1-1 at Barrow after creating lots of first half chances

PHIL PARKINSON was pleased to see improvements in parts of Wrexham’s game but he was disappointed it didn’t result in three points against Barrow.

The Reds, looking for a first League Two away win of the campaign, were held to a 1-1 draw by the Bluebirds at Holker Street.

Top scorer Elliot Lee’s put Wrexham ahead from the penalty spot in the 12th minute with his fifth goal in as many league outings and Parkinson’s men had numerous chances to increase their lead before the break after completely dominating.

However, Barrow equalised early in the second half and Wrexham failed to match their opening period display as it finished all-square.

But having seem his side ship goals this season – the Reds had to come from 4-1 down to draw 5-5 with Swindon Town the previous weekend – Parkinson was pleased with the response.

“I thought it was a good overall performance,” said Parkinson.

“The first-half performance probably warranted us coming in two or three nil up, we created some great chances and needed to be a bit more ruthless in front of goal.

“Then they had a 15 minute period and there were a couple of big decisions.

“Elliot got bundled off the ball, it hasn’t been given and they went onto score which baffled me a little bit.

“But in any game a team is going to have a period where they are top; sometimes like in the second half when a team has been dominated, the home team is going to come out with a response, and they got back in it.

“Then we wrestled control again, I felt we would go and get the winner but we just couldn’t find that touch of quality.

“But all in all, what we asked the lads to do this week is readdress the balance of our game and I thought they did really well.”

Wrexham have not struggled to score goals this season but Parkinson was gutted not to leave Barrow with a win after squandering some good opportunities in the first-half.

“It was adding some ingredients to last week but maintaining the quality we’ve showed,” said the Reds’ boss.

“I said to the lads that as much as we are disappointed to concede goals, some of the football we have played and some of the chances we have created has been outstanding.

“It has been at a high level and top scores in all divisions up to today is a credit to that.

“However, we know that there are areas we need to get better and I think in the main we addressed that.

“It was a strong performance from us, I am just disappointed that we didn’t take a couple of those chances because there were some real gilt-edged opportunities for us.

“Obviously 1-0 gives them hope and they have got some good players.

“I would love to have got three points but there were a lot of positives in the performance.”
