MEDICAL SET: MK Dons have Secure the most rated Swindon Town player

MK Dons are set to secure the signing of former Swindon Town defender Joe Tomlinson from Peterborough United on a permanent deal.

Graham Alexander’s side are set to announce the signing of defender Joe Tomlinson from the Posh, after he was transfer listed earlier in the summer. He had been expected to rejoin Swindon Town following his loan deal with the club, but the figure discussed by previous Director Of Football Sandro Di Michele was understood to be too high.

Tomlinson will link up with former teammate Jack Payne who has linked up with MK Dons on a loan deal from Charlton Athletic. They have also reportedly lodged a six-figure bid for Harrogate Town forward Luke Armstrong as they continue to strengthen the side.

The recently relegated side have settled back into League Two football in impressive style stting top of the table after five games, with just one defeat in their opening fixtures.

Joe Tomlinson joins Swindon Town on loan from Peterborough - BBC Sport

Tomlinson is a product of the Yeovil youth set up, departing at the age of 18 to join Brighton’s academy. He enjoyed a loan spell to Bognor Regis before departing the club permanently for Hungerford where he only spent a year. He joined Eastleigh and then Peterborough United in 2021.

From Peterborough he enjoyed two loan spells at Swindon Town, helping their side reach the play-off semi final under Ben Garner in his first spell but suffered with injuries that kept him out for periods. He rejoined Town on deadline day last season  but was only able to make seven league appearances again suffering from injury.

He rejoined his parent club and was immediately placed on the transfer list, as is protocol for Peterborough United with players entering the final year of his contract.

Writer’s View

If MK Dons can keep him fit, he will be a perfect option for them with his versatility allowing him to fill in on either side of the defence. It is a real show of intent for Graham Alexander who is aiming for an immediate return to League Two. I wouldn’t bet against it at the moment.
