According to report: £100,000-a-week Tottenham star will leave as a free agent very soon

Hugo Lloris, a former captain of Tottenham Hotspur, is expected to leave the organization as a free agent during the winter transfer window.
Hugo Lloris will probably depart Tottenham Hotspur in January as a free agent, according to The Telegraph. The 36-year-old shot-stopper was unable to negotiate a transfer out of the team in the summer. He’ll have to hold off till the transfer window reopens as a result.

Lloris has been at Spurs since the summer of 2012. He came into the limelight while playing for Olympique Lyon and after a few impressive seasons for the French club, Tottenham came calling and he ended up joining them.

During his time at the club, he has featured in a total of 444 matches and has kept a clean sheet in 152 of those encounters. The 36-year-old was the mainstay of the London club for years but of late things have been different.

Lloris’ performances have been going downhill over the past 12 months and he has struggled with injuries as well. The former French international even made quite a few errors that led to goals last season.

As a result of their new manager Ange Postecoglou’s dissatisfaction with the 36-year-old’s performances, the squad chose to hire a new goalkeeper in the summer.

Guglielmo Vicario was hired by the London club after leaving FC Empoli. The 26-year-old goalkeeper is off to an excellent start in London. He has played in each of Spurs’ five Premier League games, and in two of those games, he has preserved a clean sheet.

Vicario’s arrival meant there was no place for the French international at the club. Spurs were ready to negotiate his departure and even he was ready for a new chapter in his career. But, the World Cup winner couldn’t secure himself a move while the transfer window was still open.

While Lloris is still a part of the Tottenham team, he is unlikely to have any game time until the turn of the year. And, according to the report, he is expected to leave the club for free in the winter transfer window. Spurs might not be able to extract a transfer fee from his departure but it surely lightens their wage bill as the 36-year-old earns £100,000-a-week.
