“I’m not hiding that” | Hammers defender is eager to leave

West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer has confessed that he is eager to restore his starting berth after starting against Backa Topola in midweek.

Our Hammers defeated the Serbian league leaders 3-1 in our Europa League Group A opener at the London Stadium, with Kehrer starting in the right back position.

At this stage, Vladimir Coufal appears the be David Moyes’ number one choice for that role, although Kehrer is aware that quality in depth is important and that he needs to keep working hard knowing his chance to reclaim a starting 11 spot can come at any time.

“I want to play every game,” the German international told the clubs Official Website. “I’m not hiding that. I want to play as much as possible. I wouldn’t call it pressure though because I want to enjoy every minute I get. I’m giving my best in training and preparing myself, and that’s all I can do.

“We have competition for places here. If you’re not playing then you’re not happy, of course. You want to play as much as possible but, also, it’s very good for the team.

“Everyone needs to take their chances when they come because that’s the best way to get results for the team, which will boost the entire squad.”

The Hammers defender wants West Ham to maintain the positive momentum into our match against Liverpool this Sunday, with our Irons ready to bounce back to winning ways in the league after losing our first game of the season to Manchester City last weekend.

“We can take a lot of good things into Liverpool,” Kehrer remarked. “We’ve had a good start to the season, and we have another tough game coming up.”

“Against City, we defended very well through the whole game. I think we missed out on small details which cost us the result in the end. But we want to keep our good momentum going.”
