Latest Update: Eddie Howe reveals a new injury setback ahead of games against Manchester City and Burnley this week

Harvey Barnes’ toe injury ‘doesn’t look good,’ according to Eddie Howe, after he was replaced 12 minutes into our 8-0 win over Sheffield United.

In an interview following the game, the Toon manager said that ‘he pushed off and felt it’ before being replaced by Anthony Gordon.

“It doesn’t look good,” Howe remarked. I believe he has a toe issue. He pulled away, feeling something in his toe. Early indications indicate that there is likely an injury there, but we don’t know what it is.”

Though Gordon’s entrance may have spurred our assault yesterday, it’s a genuine concern to see another left-sided player injured, especially with Joelinton and Joe Willock already out for games against Manchester City and Burnley.

It would be a blow to lose the winger so early in the season, especially as we prepare for a rigorous schedule of midweek games in the league, cup, and Europe.

Despite Eddie Howe’s concerns, it was Barnes’ second start for the club, so let’s hope it’s nothing severe.
