LEEDS UNITED’S SOUTHAMPTON SUMMER SIGNING IS ON TRIAL.
The goalkeeper, Joe Lumley, tried out for Leeds United before joining Championship rivals Southampton.
Leeds United explored signing goalkeeper Joe Lumley during preseason.
This is according to The Athletic, which reports Lumley was on trial at Thorp Arch.
Leeds signed trialist Sam Byram, presumably to help a former player stay healthy after playing under Daniel Farke at Norwich City.
Byram eventually joined with Leeds and has been instrumental in the club’s early success in the new Championship season.
However, Byram was not the club’s sole trialist; goalkeeper Lumley was also looking for a new team…

Lumley is claimed to have joined Leeds ‘briefly’ when the team needed a new goalkeeper.
After losing Joel Robles over the summer, the Whites needed an experienced Championship goalkeeper to compete with Illan Meslier.
Lumley, who was released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season, was a possible replacement.
The 28-year-old was on loan at Reading last season, appearing in 41 Championship games, and has also played for Boro and Queens Park Rangers.
Finally, Leeds signed Karl Darlow from Newcastle United, who is now serving as a backup to Meslier after being expected to contend for first-team minutes.
Lumley, on the other hand, joined Southampton.
Lumley quickly left Leeds to join Championship rivals Southampton.
The fact that Lumley was schooled by Southampton goalkeeping coach Dean Thornton in the QPR youth ranks is a crucial factor here.
Lumley was delighted to rejoin, but he has yet to appear in a Southampton shirt.
In fact, Lumley has only played two games this season and appears to be Southampton’s third-choice, after Gavin Bazunu and Alex McCarthy.
