LATEST NEWS: Tottenham in battle race with West ham to sign free agent

Tottenham acknowledged their interest in the dynamic winger wanted by West Ham, and a trade is expected in 2024.

The agency of Armand Lauriente has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United were interested in the Sassuolo winger during the previous transfer window.

Lauriente has started his second season with Sassuolo after signing from Lorient last summer, but in an alternate universe, he could have progressed quickly to the Premier League.

His advisor, Roberto Meloni, disclosed which teams were interested in signing the 24-year-old this season in an interview with Tuttomercatoweb, including the Premier League duo.

“Bayer Leverkusen preferred him over [Moussa] Diaby,” explained Meloni. Tottenham were also interested, and it’s no secret that [Cristiano] Giuntoli would have preferred him if he’d stayed at Napoli…

“There was an attempt in the Premier League, but he wants to get to an important level, preferring a second season at Sassuolo to confirm himself.”

“He’s getting along really well with [Alessio] Dionisi.” He will very probably be on the list of exits with high-level offers next year.”

As he previously stated, there is a significant chance that next summer will be the appropriate time for Lauriente to take the next step in his career.

“I believe so,” Meloni said, “though it will be contingent on his performance this year.” We were already interested in him, but we didn’t want to leave Sassuolo just for the sake of change. For us, it makes no sense.”

Lauriente’s future suitors are on the lookout.

Only time will tell whether Tottenham or West Ham make another attempt to sign him next summer. As his agent has confessed, it could all come down to how he performs in the next months.

Last season, Lauriente scored seven goals in 28 Serie A games for his new squad. He has appeared six times since the start of the current season, scoring his first goal of the season in a win over Juventus in the most recent of those appearances.

Lauriente has primarily played on the left side, although he can also play on the other wing as a right-footer.

This summer, West Ham signed Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus, while Tottenham brought in Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest, Manor Solomon from Shakhtar Donetsk, and James Maddison from Leicester City.
