After QPR’s victory Coventry City manager praises a summer addition who has got everything

Mark Robins, the manager of Coventry City, has heaped praise on Ellis Simms following their Saturday success away at QPR.

Coventry City defeated the R’s 3-1, with the striker scoring twice. Over the summer, the Sky Blues swooped in to sign him.

Simms, 22, has thus far had to be patient in his pursuit of ambitions. He’ll be hoping that his brace against the Hornets gives him confidence now.

According to CoventryLive, Robins stated, “He’s got high potential and he’s certainly not the finished article.” Last season, he scored an incredibly fantastic goal for Everton against Chelsea.

“He’s got it all and can be a real handful.” And sometimes it’s simply understanding the game and feeling comfortable in the way he operates, rather than trying to mold him into something you want him to be, but working within his skills and comfort zone and pushing him to attempt things he wouldn’t typically try.

“But that will come with experience and also with confidence.”

Coventry man gains confidence

Simms had large shoes to fill at Coventry after being brought in after Viktor Gyokeres left for Sporting Lisbon in the previous transfer window.

Before joining former club Everton as a youngster in 2017, he was on the books of Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers. The Oldham native went on to make 12 appearances for the Toffees’ first team, scoring one goal.

To gain experience, the forward departed Goodison Park on loan to Blackpool, Hearts, and Sunderland. He was a big hit with the latter last season, scoring seven goals in 17 appearances before being recalled.

Everton chose to sell him in July, and it has taken him some time to settle in at Coventry. However, he had a big day yesterday and will be eager to build on it now.

Robins’ men return to play on Wednesday, hosting Blackburn Rovers, before hosting Norwich City on Saturday.
