In an Instagram post, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum expressed his heartbreak over the trade of Robert Williams III to the Portland Trail Blazers. The Boston Celtics reached an agreement with the Portland Trail Blarzes on Sunday to acquire Jrue Holiday. As part of that deal, the Celtics were to send center Robert Williams III to Portland. Boston’s star striker Jayson Tatum couldn’t hide his disappointment when he learned of Williams III’s departure. In an emotional post on his Instagram, Tatum opened up about his feelings about the team’s trading of Williams III. “This hurts so much. My brother is here. The hardest thing about this (sic) is I appreciate you for everything,” Tatum wrote on the post, along with a photo of Tatum and Williams III together on the court.
Tatum offered further encouragement to the new Blazer, telling him: “Continue to strive to be special and never change who you are.” My 4L best friend until we reconnect. Nothing but love.”
It was a busy day for Tatum, who sent his best wishes, and he also wrote a sweet message to Malcolm Brogdon. Brogdon was also part of the Celtics-Trail Blazers trade.
In a cruel irony, just hours before the trade was announced, Williams III was looking forward to the upcoming season for Boston and the Celtics. He is delighted to finally have fully recovered and be able to return to the field. Now, the next time he touches the hardwood, it will be as a member of the Trail Blazers.
