JUST NOW: Rangers has finally beaten Crystal Palace in race to sign free agent

Former Wolves and Crystal Palace midfielder is a “serious contender” for the Rangers job.

Is a former Wolves defender about to return to his homeland? He’s rumored to want to join the Rangers…

A former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender has expressed interest in becoming Rangers boss.

The club is seeking for a new manager after parting ways with Michael Beale on Sunday night, ending his 10-month tenure after leaving QPR.

The 43-year-old was fired after the Gers were trounced 3-1 at Ibrox on Saturday, putting them seven points behind Celtic, who are managed by Brendan Rodgers. Steve Davis, a former Aston Villa, Fulham, and Southampton player, has been named interim manager while the club seeks for a replacement.

Rangers are a big club, and various names have been linked to the post in the past, and now one former Wolves player is said to be interested. Muscat would be interested in chatting with the Glasgow club about being their new manager, according to talkSPORT.

He is regarded as a “serious candidate” and now manages Yokohama F.Marinos in Japan, having succeeded Ange Postecoglou, who is now manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

They will take their time with their encounter, according to our sister website GlasgowWorld, but Muscat is one of three men they want to speak with.

After a caretaker time at Stamford Bridge, they want to meet with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, as well as ex-Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder.

Meanwhile, Mark Bosnich, a former Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Chelsea goalkeeper, has endorsed Muscat for the position. “From a coaching standpoint, Kevin is a disciple of Ange Postecoglou,” the 51-year-old explained to Sky Sports News.

“For those who remember him as a player, and I say this with the best of intentions, the way he manages his football teams is diametrically opposed to the way he played.”

“He’s obviously played for Rangers before, but he likes to play that entertaining style of football that also produces results.” In terms of edge, he’s a little more direct than Ange, but he’d be a fantastic asset for the Rangers because of that, what I’ve seen him accomplish, and the fact that he’s Ange’s student.”

Muscat won the J.League in 2022 and also achieved success in Australia with Melbourne Victory, who won the A-League in 2018. He has ten years of management experience, and his Rangers ties may make him a suitable fit for the post.

Muscat spent the majority of his career at Molineux after signing from Crystal Palace in 1997. In four and a half seasons in the Midlands, he made 201 appearances in the First Division, which is now known as the Championship.

He joined Rangers in the summer of 2002 and made 29 appearances before leaving after one season to join Millwall, where he was an FA Cup runner-up.

Muscat returned to Australia, where he began his playing career, and played for the Melbourne Victory for six seasons, first as a caretaker manager and later as a regular manager.
