Rangers lose a key player due to injury.

Ridvan Yilmaz Rangers injury blow as young Turk out until after World Cup and Ben Davies major Ajax doubt

The full back pulled up with a hamstring injury after finally finding his feet in Gio van Bronckhorst’s side

After suffering a hamstring injury in the opening minutes of Rangers’ 4-1 win over Aberdeen, Ridvan Yilmaz will not play again for the club until the World Cup break.

And Rangers’ defensive situation could be exacerbated even further for Tuesday’s last Champions League group game against Ajax, as Ben Davies is now a big doubt after being pulled out at half-time, leaving James Sands and Leon King as the likely pairing.

It was a tragedy for Yilmaz, who had finally got into the lineup in recent weeks and was arguably one of Rangers’ triumphs in Naples last midweek on a difficult night, but he was plainly in trouble after only 10 minutes when he suffered a hamstring injury. Rangers will not know the full extent of Davies’ groin condition until tests are completed.

They’ve recently added to their injured list, with Connor Goldson and Ryan Jack joining Tom Lawrence and the longer-term absentees John Souttar, Fil Helander, and Ianis Hagi.

“Ridvan had to come off because he felt his hamstring, and Ben had a moment in the beginning of the game but could play on,” said boss Gio van Bronckhorst. I didn’t want to take any chances. We’ll have to evaluate him tomorrow to see how he feels. I’m not sure yet. I believe Ridvan will be out for a few weeks, but I’m not sure about Ben.”

Rangers manager feels his team is ready to stop the whitewash when the Dutch side comes calling after five painful defeats in the group stage. “We are ready to get our first points in the competition,” he stated.

“I believe we can beat any team at home, and if we can perform like we did against Aberdeen, we will have a chance.” If we win, we will finish the campaign even on points with Ajax, demonstrating the group’s true strength.”
