UPDATE: Tottenham has won the battle race to sign a free agent

Tottenham is still interested in Jota.

Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in signing Jota, a Portuguese winger, according to 90min.

During the summer transfer window, the 24-year-old was extensively linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, but the transaction fell through. In July, he joined Saudi club Al Itihad for a cost of roughly £25 million.

Surprisingly, the club has locked him out and he has not been enrolled for the forthcoming season.According to 90min, Jota is now in talks with the Saudi club in order to reach an agreement. He wants the club to free him so he can return to Europe as soon as possible.

If he is allowed to leave for free, Ange Postecouglou will be eager to sign him. Al Ittihad may not be eager to trade him now, but they may allow him to leave during the winter transfer window.

Tottenham will face competition, though, as 90min reports that a number of Premier League clubs, including Brentford, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, and West Ham, are interested in signing him, while Celtic are also interested in bringing him back to Parkhead.

Spurs must sign him.

Jota is a terrific winger who improved dramatically under Postecoglou during his time at Celtic. He scored 28 goals and had 26 assists in 83 games for the Bhoys over two seasons and would be eager to reunite with his former manager at Spurs.

He, like Brennan Johnson, enjoys hugging the sidelines and is a known match winner. He succeeded under Postecoglou at Celtic and is likely to settle quickly at the north London club if he makes the move. In theory, Jota should fit better into Postecoglou’s favored system than some of the club’s current wingers.

He has the talent to succeed in the Premier League, and the North London club should make a move for him if he is available for free or at a low cost.
