LATEST NEWS: Austrian manager who broke Rangers fans’ hearts in Seville is now a free agent

Oliver Glasner, the former Eintracht Frankfurt manager, broke Rangers hearts in Seville, but might he be a candidate to succeed Michael Beale as the club’s new manager?

While there have been no formal links to the Austrian manager, Oliver Glasner, who departed the Bundesliga team at the end of last season, is still without a club.

Rangers could do worse than to have a look at the 49-year-old German coach, who is well-versed in the Ibrox setup.

Oliver Glasner was in command of the Eintracht Frankfurt team that defeated Rangers on penalties in Seville after a 1-1 stalemate in the Europa League Final.

Last season, the manager led the Bundesliga club to the last 16 of the Champions League, where they were eliminated by Napoli, as well as to the DFB Pokal final.

While Frankfurt eventually lost to RB Leipzig, a seventh-place result ensured Eintracht Frankfurt a shot at the Europa Conference League before Oliver Glasner’s stint at Die Adler ended.

Is Oliver Glasner qualified to be the future Rangers manager?

Oliver Glasner, who spent two years with Eintracht Frankfurt, left the German club in the summer and is now without a club, even if he hasn’t been without prospective choices.

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur considered Glasner before signing Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

While there has been no mention of the manager in relation to the Rangers position, we would be astonished if there hasn’t been at least a talk in the Ibrox boardroom.

Rangers have made it clear that Steven Davis and his team will be left in control until the club finds the perfect replacement, and we expect no stone to be left unturned in that search.

Oliver Glasner is an audacious appointment for Rangers, but after finding success with SV Reid and LASK in Austria, as well as Wolfsburg and Frankfurt in Germany, perhaps it’s time for the coach to branch out.

If Oliver Glasner was serious about taking over at Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, he simply had to look at Rangers rival Ange Postecoglou’s transfer to the Premier League.

Clubs in the south may be hesitant to take a chance on a coach who hasn’t been tried in the British league, and the Old Firm has historically served as a great Premier League stepping stone for coaches.
