Leeds United manager given an opportunity to a 23-year-old electrifying striker

The BBC journalist agreed with his colleague Jonny Buchan on the Don’t Go To Bed Yet podcast on 2 October to back that the Bournemouth loanee should be brought into the line-up for the visit of Queens Park Rangers in midweek (4 October).

Daniel Farke kept faith with the side who had produced an excellent 3-0 win over Watford but was burned with a 3-1 loss at Southampton so is expected to make changes for the Rs game.

Buchan said (16m 50s): “Summerville for me is still not doing what he needs to do, he’s not at all.

“He does have to do something to deserve that chant. He’s got a chant and for me chants should only be for players who have actually deserved a chant.

Pope added: “I really like the look of Anthony so far. All his sub appearances, I think his delivery could be more consistent than Summerville’s at the moment, I think he gets the role more where as I think Summerville’s a bit too off the cuff, and that causes issues for delivery into the front men.

“So I’d love to see Anthony start, I really would, and he’s got to be close.”

Anthony was an exciting consolation to secure in the deadline day drama that saw Luis Sinisterra force his way out to the Cherries, but the 23-year-old has only made four late substitute outings so far.

He has looked sharp and scored his first goal against the Hornets on 23 September so is in line for greater involvement sooner or later.

Summerville has seemed like the most dangerous weapon in the Leeds United arsenal at times this season, especially in games where his attacking teammates have struggled to perform.

But since an goal and an assist in the opening day 2-2 draw with Cardiff he hasn’t had as much of an impact so might benefit from dropping out.

All in all the Whites have some very strong attacking options, but still the unit is proving inconsistent so the manager probably hasn’t hit on the ideal combination yet.

But at least he has choices, which is less than could be said earlier this season, and as long as he can get a response after the loss at St. Mary’s the picture still remains positive.
