“I went to school in Sunderland, so all of my friends are Sunderland supporters, but I just have to be professional about it.” I’ve joined Middlesbrough and will fight for them. It’s all about the squad I’m on, therefore I’ll go for the victory.”

Greenwood started at No. 10 against Cardiff, with Matt Crooks dropping to the bench due to an injury niggle, as Boro won their third straight league game before traveling to Wearside on Saturday.

“It’s going to be a big game on Saturday,” Greenwood added. “I’m confident we can win and keep pushing as a team.” Whether I start or not is up to the gaffer, but hopefully I’ve done enough.”
