Sad news Wrexham star scores his first goal after a horror injury occur

Paul Mullin scored a spectacular overhead kick for Wrexham for the first game since puncturing his lung against Manchester United.

Since slipping down the leagues two years ago, the 28-year-old has carried the goal-scoring burden at the Racecourse Ground. Last season, Wrexham won the National League with an incredible 47 strikes throughout all competitions.

However, an unexpected pre-season event prompted Mullin to miss the start of the season. In a match against a youth United team in Los Angeles, the striker clashed with goalie Nathan Bishop and was forced to withdraw.

Mullin had a lung puncture, according to tests, and he acknowledged to The Athletic in August that he was afraid for his life. “I was trying to breathe in, but nothing was happening,” he explained. I couldn’t get any oxygen into my lungs. That’s when I realized something was wrong.

“As I struggled for breath, my lips turning blue, I accepted that this could be the end of me.” That’s exactly how it felt. For a few moments, I couldn’t breathe properly. Albi, my little kid, was on my mind. I don’t like being away from him and my companion Mollie for too long, but I assured myself it was just two weeks and that I’d be home soon. It took much longer than expected, but I’m grateful it wasn’t worse.”

Mullin healed and has been gradually returning to action for the Red Dragons in recent weeks. In his first full 90 minutes back from injury, the former Tranmere Rovers man scored twice to help Wrexham earn a point.

The hosts fell behind three times in a thrilling 3-3 draw, with former Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher scoring his first goal for the club in the 95th minute. Following the victory, manager Phil Parkinson praised Wrexham’s attitude, paying special homage to Mullin, whose grandfather died just days before.

“The lads had a lot of character,” Parkinson added. “I thought we were the better team in the second half and had some great chances.” It would have been an injustice if we hadn’t won the draw, and I’m honestly disappointed we didn’t win given we had 10 men.

“It was an exciting game with a lot of discussion points.” Even if we hadn’t scored, I would have been pleased with how the boys performed today.

“It’s been a difficult week with a family bereavement, so I’m happy for him (Mullin).” He was burning on all cylinders, and with two goals, I don’t think many players at this level would produce moments like that.”

Mullin dedicated the goal to his grandfather in a moving post-match update. The striker stated on Instagram, “They where for my Grandie.”
