The Celtics have acquired Jrue Holiday from the ‘Extremely Happy’ Jayson Tatum.

Jayson Tatum told Bleacher Report NBA reporter Chris Haynes that he’s “extremely happy” the Boston Celtics signed Jrue Holiday. In the blockbuster Damian Lillard trade, the Milwaukee Bucks sent Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers. Holiday was diverted to the Celtics by the Blazers, who are rebuilding in the post-Lillard era.

“I’m extremely happy to have him,” Tatum told B/R. “Jrue is one of the most well-liked players in this league.” He’s a winner. Two summers ago, we won a gold medal together. So I know him quite well and know he’s a great player and teammate. I assured him we were fortunate to have him and that we would do our best to complete the task.”

Last season, Holiday appeared in 67 games for the Bucks. He averaged 19.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game while shooting 47.9% from the field, 38.4% from beyond the arc, and 85.9% from the line.

Holiday has averaged 16.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 6.5 assists in his NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Milwaukee Bucks. He has been named to five All-Defensive teams as well as two All-Star teams. Holiday was instrumental in the Bucks’ 2021 championship victory over the Phoenix Suns.

This season, the Celtics are slated to start Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Tatum, and Kristaps Porzingis. Many experts anticipate that Boston and Milwaukee will play in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2024.

“They’re going to have a hell of a team,” Tatum said of the Bucks. “There’s no getting around it. At two of those key spots, they have two of the top players in the league. They’ll be difficult, but they’ll be enjoyable. This is a season I’m looking forward to. There are a number of very, really excellent teams in the league, and there will be some great basketball this season.”
