REPORT: Jaylen Brown of the Celtics has hinted at a commitment to Team USA in 2024

BRIGHTON, Massachusetts — Some of the NBA’s best names, including Boston Celtics standout Jaylen Brown, could create an outrageously dominant Team USA roster for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Following the commitment of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James to represent Team USA for the first time since 2012, several of the league’s top stars followed. The Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry and the Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant are among the perennial All-Stars in the running.

Brown, it appears, may be following the group. The 26-year-old hinted that he will, at the very least, consider competing for Team USA.

“I think there’s no greater honor than playing for USA basketball,” Brown said at the Celtics’ media day on Monday. “I think playing for your country is definitely — coming from my community, coming from where I come from, where the majority of our demographic comes from, having the opportunity to represent that, your community, your outer community, and the people who support you, I think that is also a part of it.” It would be fantastic to be able to participate.”

Brown represented the United States in the under-18-year-old national team in 2014, winning gold two years before being drafted by the Celtics.

But, once again, that’s a long way off.

Brown recognizes that the Celtics still have a full season ahead of them with championship aspirations. The Celtics absolutely failed after losing in seven games to the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. They failed to live up to the hype that has surrounded them since Brown and Jayson Tatum’s rise to prominence. So it’s no surprise that the bar has been set high for Opening Night on October 25 and beyond.

“Everybody knows what our goal is, everybody knows what the goal is,” he said. “We just need to make sure we don’t skip any steps, that we bring others along, and that we hold each other accountable.” We need to prioritize the process over the ultimate product, and I believe that is our strategy.”
