Melbourne Demons are close to completing a significant star deal with the Sydney Swans this evening

James Jordon, a midfielder for Melbourne, joins Sydney Swans as shocking information about the war fund is revealed.

Lance Franklin’s departure has left the AFL club flush with cash and ready to play hard.

For the Sydney Swans, this is only the appetizer; the meal is just around the corner.

James Jordon of Melbourne was signed by Sydney as an unrestricted free agent in the first moves of the AFL’s free agency period, along with Joel Hamling of Fremantle (a former Western Bulldogs premiership player who was a member of the grand final squad that defeated the Swans in 2016).

The Demons received a draft pick from the end of round two (now pick No. 39) as payment for Jordon, a 22-year-old midfielder.

He is a useful pick up for the Swans after spending the previous three seasons as a regular for the Demons despite being overshadowed by Melbourne’s prominent talents.

He was selected with the number 33 pick in the 2018 draft and went on to play 25 games in 2021. The following year, he managed 22 games, and this season, he played in 18.

The 30-year-old defender Hamling, who is also an unrestricted free agent, has accepted a contract offer from Sydney after losing favor at Fremantle.

He played in just two games (due to injury-interrupted seasons) between 2020 and 2022, but his presence will help the Swans’ depleted key defensive spots.

The disclosure comes as ominous information about a sizable Sydney war fund comes to light. The Swans seem to be cash-rich and ready to play hard when the Trade Period begins on Monday following Lance Franklin’s retirement and a few quiet years on the trade front.

According to top AFL reporter for 7NEWS Mitch Cleary, the club had a chance to sign Collingwood vice-captain Taylor Adams.

Brodie Grundy, an unpopular ruck for Melbourne who signed a huge seven-year deal with Collingwood in 2020, is also expected to join the Swans.

Before the Dogs persuaded Aaron Naughton to stay with a massive eight-year deal, the Swans were also planning a move to steal the forward from the Western Bulldogs.

Many sites reported that the Swans were trying to entice Naughton with a startling $11 million over a 10-year period, despite the fact that some criticized the Bulldogs for the duration of the contract.

Tom Morris, an AFL journalist, said on SEN, “It was put to me that it was $12 million and I’ve had that denied, but I do believe it was more than $11 million over 10 years that the Swans were prepared to offer (Naughton).”

It would have been the largest deal ever offered in the AFL.

Although Jordon and Hamling are a modest start for the Swans, Charlie Gardiner, the team’s football manager, is excited about the big fish who are expected to join the squad in the upcoming weeks.

James is a talented young midfielder with a bright future, according to Gardiner.

“With his sprinting abilities and versatility to play inside and outside, we believe he will be a beneficial addition to our midfield group.

“We are confident he will make us better,” they said. “He has had an impressive start to his career so far and comes with experience in a successful program at Melbourne.”

Beginning on Monday and lasting through Wednesday, October 18, is the 2023 Trade Period.
