Melbourne Storm mourns the untimely deaths of team members.

Clubs in the Rugby League are adjusting to the tragic passing of young Melbourne star Hayden Butler.
On Australia Day in Mackay, a PROMISING Melbourne rugby league player passed away abruptly.

20-year-old Melbourne Storm youngster and gifted AFL prospect Hayden Butler just relocated to Mackay after competing with Burleigh Bears in the Intrust Super Cup the previous year.

Butler, a rising star in Aussie Rules, also competed for Melbourne Storm’s junior sides and won a premiership in 2011 while playing for St Kilda City Colts.

Rod Gamlin, the president of St Kilda City, remarked that the news had upset both the club’s players and employees.

We find this unbelievable. He was such a kind guy, Gamlin said.

“We are all shocked by this.

“He was very talented and even though he was with the Storm I think he could have played AFL too.

“It is just sad mate.”

Butler was also a talented athlete at Waverley Little Athletics Centre from 2004-2008, who took up league after finishing little athletics.

The centre issued a statement on their website and said Butler was a “rising star” who was “a good player with lots of potential”.

“We send our condolences to Hayden’s family and friends during this difficult time,” the centre said.
