Nottingham Forest transfer’regret’ revealed amid Andrey Santos stance at Chelsea

Nottingham Forest transfer news: on-loan Blues midfielder awaits Premier League opportunity with Reds

Nottingham Forest are said to have assured Chelsea that Andrey Santos will soon get his opportunity in the Premier League.

The on-loan midfielder has featured once for the Reds so far since joining from the Blues in the summer. His sole appearance came as part of the starting XI in August’s Carabao Cup defeat to Burnley, when he played almost the full 90 minutes.

His lack of game time has led to Chelsea fans voicing their discontent on social media. Meanwhile, reports have suggested the club are weighing up recalling the 19-year-old in January.

A final decision has not been made at Stamford Bridge, according to Give Me Sport. However, it is said finding a new loan for Santos for the second half of the season is a possibility “if things do not improve” – although Chelsea are said to have received assurances that “opportunities are coming”.

The report adds “there is some regret” around the Brazilian’s choice of loan move. Porto were one of the clubs which had been keen to sign him, but the player was keen to join a Premier League side to help with his adaptation to English football.

Amid the speculation about his future, Forest head coach Steve Cooper recently said of Santos: “He’s been good. He’s obviously a really good young player. I had a really good chat with Chelsea (about him). I didn’t realise some stuff had been written about him.

“There’s a lot of new players here and we’re really trying to get the balance right in integrating all the players at the right time, while trying to perform as best we can in every single game to get the results we want. That’s a real process.

“With young players, sometimes it can take longer than others to settle in. I’m not saying he’s not, it’s just circumstantial at the moment in some of the games.

“For example, Brentford could have been a really good game for him to come off the bench. But we went down to 10 men and he wasn’t feeling too well on the sidelines. That went against him, because he was definitely in our thinking for a change. It didn’t work out that way, because of how he was feeling and the red card – so there’s been a little bit of bad luck as well.

“But we’re really enjoying working with him and seeing him in training. We will continue with that process.”
