Very sad and disheartening.

A New Zealand rugby league player died as a result of a head injury sustained during a weekend competition.
Tere Livingstone, a Ppmoa Bulldogs rugby league player, suffered a horrific injury on June 10 while playing at Mitchell Park in Tauranga.
According to a family member, Livingstone was formally proclaimed dead at Waikato Hospital yesterday.

Despite surgery, tests revealed that his body and brain had not recovered from scans that revealed severe brain damage.
“It’s so very, very sad,” the man said.
The family is understandably distraught, but friends and the community have offered incredible support.

“It shows what sort of man Tere was.”
Details for the tangi (a ceremonial Māori funeral) were still being arranged, as Livingstone was still currently at Waikato Hospital in Hamilton, but it would be at Akerama Marae, Towai, Northland, at the weekend, the person said.
Chief executive of Coastline Rugby League, Stan Bunny Nicholas, said that they had received “the devastating news” yesterday that Livingstone had died.
“The brave warrior fought for five days against all odds.”
He said the Bay of Plenty teams will observe “a minute of silence for our fallen brother” prior to the first game of the season this coming Saturday in Rotorua.
“We send our aroha and condolences to the whānau and Pāpāmoa Bulldogs as Tere embarks on his new journey to Hawaiki nui.”
