THOUSAND OAKS, CA – If Sean McVay’s first kid is born this month on a Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams will have to play without him.

McVay and his wife, Veronika, are expecting “in the next couple of weeks,” according to the head coach.

When asked about the Rams’ intentions if the big day falls on a game day, McVay simply grinned and replied, “I won’t be at the game.”

McVay did not go into specifics about the Rams’ intentions during his indefinite paternity leave, but defensive coordinator Raheem Morris is a two-time NFL head coach with vast experience.

The Rams (2-3) host Arizona (1-4) this Sunday before returning home to face Pittsburgh the following week.

The McVays are expecting a newborn boy “any day now,” he added.

McVay is 62-41 in seven seasons with the Rams, and he remains the NFL’s youngest head coach nearly seven years later. He has guided the Rams to five winning seasons, four playoff appearances, three NFC West titles, two Super Bowl appearances, and the franchise’s second Super Bowl triumph.

Last season, the Rams finished 5-12, the lowest record by a reigning Super Bowl winner in NFL history. McVay seriously contemplated retiring after the season, but eventually stated that he was dedicated to Los Angeles in the long run.
