After suffering a neck injury in Week 5, New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has been declared out of Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Jones will not play when the Giants travel upstate on Sunday, according to head coach Brian Daboll.

The impact from Miami’s Andrew Van Ginkel caused Jones’ injury and withdrawal from Sunday’s game. Jones’ head visibly snapped back upon contact during a successful sack from behind by the Dolphins’ linebacker.

Despite missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday, the Giants acknowledged that Jones will not be ready to play on Sunday.

‘I think he’s improving,’ Daboll added. ‘However, I’m not good enough to play in this game.’

Jones is no stranger to sack-related neck issues. Jones had a cervical neck sprain against the in 2021.

The Giants, who have struggled offensively this season, are 1-4 and have scored just one touchdown in their last three games.

The agony continues as Jones joins a laundry list of teammates who will not be on the field this Sunday. Left tackle Andrew Thomas is out with a hamstring injury. Center John Michael Schmitz and offensive tackle Matt Peart’s shoulder injuries have them sidelined. Meanwhile, outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari is ruled out with an ankle injury.

Running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Darren Waller are questionable with ankle and groin complications, respectively.

‘It’s a contact sport, so the idea is to be healed,’ Jones said. ‘I’m trying get there as soon as possible so I can get back out there.’
