With Jaylen Brown out due to a sprained right ankle, the Boston Celtics will be missing a major piece of their lineup against the Miami Heat on Sunday.
Brown’s absence for the third straight game takes away a key component of the Celtics offense. This season, he’s averaging 24.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
The Celtics’ lineup void comes at a critical time as they compete with the Heat for the sixth spot in the 2018 NBA playoffs. With five games remaining on each clubs’ regular season schedules, the Heat hold a one-game lead over the Celtics entering Sunday’s contest.
The seeding is especially important because the seventh through tenth seeds in both conferences will have to compete in a play-in round, which might be the end of a team’s season.
The forthcoming game on Sunday is the first of two straight games between the two clubs in Boston, with the second game taking place on Tuesday night.
