Sad news as West Coast Eagles receive a major injury update

Elliot Yeo of the West Coast Eagles is expected to be available early in the season after suffering a calf strain in Friday’s practice match.

Midfield teammates Dom Sheed and Campbell Chesser, on the other hand, are expected to miss further time due to lower leg ailments.

Sheed was injured in a tackle against Fremantle and will be missing for the first half of the season after undergoing syndesmosis surgery.

First-round draft selection Chesser will be in rehab for a similar amount of time and may require surgery after landing awkwardly and injuring his ankle.

“There’s nobody to blame but we’ve had a bad run of luck on the injury front and unfortunately Elliot, Dom and Campbell all sustained injuries early in the practice game,” Gavin Bell, the club’s football manager, said.

“Elliot strained his calf, and we expect him to be able to play again in about a month.”

“Unfortunately for Dom, his left leg was twisted underneath him in a tackle in the first five minutes of Friday’s game, and he will require surgery to repair his syndesmosis.”

“It’s also very disappointing for Campbell to sustain a long-term injury in his first game for the club after a promising few months in training.”

“He has some ligament and cartilage damage to his ankle that we are continuing to assess but he is likely to miss at least the first half of the season.”

Meanwhile, Connor West has suffered plantar fascia pain and will be evaluated before Sunday’s AAMI Community Series match against the Dockers at Fremantle Oval.
