Curtis Fleming lauded Bristol City’s character after their ‘terrible’ win over Coventry City on Saturday at Ashton Gate.

Rob Dickie scored the game’s lone goal minutes before the halftime siren, bouncing past Kyle McFadzean to guide home Taylor Gardner-Hickman’s set piece.

Coventry put the Robins under a lot of pressure, hitting the crossbar twice and missing numerous good chances. However, as the game progressed, the hosts appeared to gain confidence and cruised to victory.

“After the Stoke game we said to the lads that we could’ve been four or five nil up at half time, we lost the game 3-2 and Nige said that at times you’ve got to win horribly,” Fleming said at the time.

“In this league, you have to win horribly, and three points are everything.” You’ve done incredible things and gotten nothing in return. It’s what we usually say, isn’t it? It’s football, and that’s all there is to it, but I think we showed some real character today. In defense, players are playing out of position. Andy King was fantastic alongside Rob Dickie. Mark Sykes will play fullback.”

Due to a slew of recent injuries, Nigel Pearson was forced to reshuffle the starting lineup. The Robins started the game in a 3-4-1-2 formation before moving to their regular 4-3-3, which resulted in a much more balanced team.
