During the 2006 and 2007 seasons, he played for the New York Giants and the Detroit Lions before retiring.

He had a long struggle with disease.

Rice apparently began suffering seizures in August of 2007, and MRIs revealed a brain tumor. Even though the tumor was benign, he needed surgery to remove it. In March, the website received a tragic update, saying that “he has been fighting cancer for the past 16 years,” and that doctors had given him “4-6 months” to live.

Rice was much more than just a football player.

He was a husband and a father.
