REPORT: Boston Celtics have officially revealed the NBA’s hidden weapon for 2023 this morning

In the NBA, Neemias Queta is a relatively unknown name. During his 20-game stint with the Sacramento Kings, the 24-year-old averaged less than eight minutes per game. The Kings waived Queta in September due to an abundance of big players on their roster, including Domantas Sabonis, JaVale McGee, and Alex Len. The Boston Celtics utilized their final available roster spot on the 7-foot center a week later.

Despite a lack of national notice, Queta has established himself as a formidable force in the G League. The Portuguese native finished second in G League MVP voting with 16.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while shooting 68% from the field. Queta tallied 29 points and 14 rebounds in 35 minutes of preseason action with the Celtics. This was accomplished with a 13-for-15 field goal shooting percentage.

Queta’s recent play has earned him acclaim from players such as Joe Mazzulla and Al Horford. Horford told Inside The Celtics the following. “It seems to me the game comes easy to him.” Queta is eligible to play in 50 regular-season games under his current two-way contract. It’s debatable if he outperformed teammate Luke Kornet, who had 13 points and 10 rebounds in 56 preseason minutes, and whether he should be prioritized higher in the Celtics’ rotation.

It’s also possible that Queta will become an important member of the lineup. Kristaps Porzingis, the Celtics’ other big man, is prone to injury, as is Horford, 37. Based on his progress over the last year, Queta will most likely continue to dominate beneath the radar.
