Ohio State: Following the Week 8 schedule, the Big Ten announces its Players of the Week

The Big Ten is back with more standout performers from the Week 8 slate of games!

Over the weekend, Ohio State secured another top-10 win while Michigan shut out Michigan State with a dominant rivalry performance. Minnesota also toppled Iowa to capture Floyd of Rosedale while Wisconsin, Nebraska and Rutgers also secured wins.

Following the week, the B1G unveiled five Players of the Week on Monday:

Offensive Players of the Week

  • Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State WR
  • JJ McCarthy, Michigan QB

Harrison finished the win over Penn State with 162 receiving yards and a touchdown on 11 catches. Set a new career-high for catches in the win and set Ohio State’s record for games with 160+ receiving yards with his fifth career game.

McCarthy led the rout of the Spartans completing 21-of-27 passes for 287 yards and 4 touchdowns. Set a new career-high mark for touchdown passes in a game and is now sixth on Michigan’s all-time list for touchdown passes with 45.

Defensive Player of the Week

  • Tyler Nubin, Minnesota DB

Nubin was everywhere in Minnesota’s 12-10 win over Iowa, finishing the game with 4 tackles, a sack, a TFL, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup. The Gopher defense limited the Hawkeyes to 127 total yards of offense (11 rushing yards) as Minnesota won in Iowa City for the first time since 1999.

Special Teams Player of the Week

  • Dragan Kesich, Minnesota kicker

Kesich kicked 4 field goals and accounted for all 12 of Minnesota’s points in the win. Two of Kesich’s kicks came from 40+ yards out and is the first Gopher kicker with at least four field goals in a game since Dan Nystrom in the 2002 Music City Bowl.

Freshman of the Week

  • Braedyn Locke, Wisconsin QB

Locke led a double-digit comeback for Wisconsin in his first college start for the Badgers. Threw for 240 yards and 2 touchdowns on 21-for-41 passing. Both of Locke’s touchdowns came in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner with 27 seconds left in the game.
