Cade McNamara of Iowa football promises a victorious return in 2024 after undergoing knee surgery.

Iowa football’s season was derailed when starting quarterback Cade McNamara suffered a torn ACL against Michigan State. The good news for the Hawkeyes is that McNamara has stated his intention to return next season.

McNamara shared a few photographs and a statement on X, saying, “I want to thank everyone for all the love and support.” The path ahead is difficult, but nothing I haven’t faced before. I can’t wait to return to Iowa City and cheer on my teammates for the rest of the season.

I had a vision when I decided to move to Iowa, and that vision has not changed. I have a lot of goals for the Black and Gold and am excited to see them realised in the 2024 season. “Let’s go Hawks!”

The Hawkeyes were 4-1 with Cade McNamara in the starting, with the lone loss coming in a 31-0 whitewash to Penn State football. The football transfer from Michigan completed 51.1% of his passes for 505 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. Since McNamara’s injury, Iowa has gone 2-1, averaging only 15 points per game in the three games.

The Iowa offence has been chastised for failing to score consistently, and offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz’s job has been dubbed a product of nepotism because his father, Kirk Ferentz, is the coach. Brian agreed to two incentives before of the season to keep his job beyond the 2023 season. To keep his job, Iowa must win at least seven games and the offence must score at least 25 points per game. With a record of 6-2, he has a reasonable chance of meeting the seven-win incentive, but the second may be a long shot. Iowa currently averages 19.5 points per game, just over two more than they did previous season when they averaged 17.7 points per game.
