There’s a lot of noise surrounding Michigan football right now and the only thing the Wolverines can control is how they play.
Thankfully, Michigan football is now finished with what was the longest bye week in the history of the program. At least it felt that way.
I’m sure there will be plenty of questions for Jim Harbaugh on Monday. There should be some for Ohio State’s Ryan Day too if the media was doing its job.
However, Michigan football can’t worry about any of that. The Wolverines did a good job of blocking out the noise during the Michigan State game in a 49-0 win.
It’s pretty hard for Michigan State fans to now claim Michigan only defeated MSU because the Wolverines knew their signals (MSU used a huddle).
That’s the best way to end the narrative that Michigan football cheated — by dominating everyone down the stretch and going undefeated.
Winning is the best thing Michigan football can do
The idea that Michigan football has been in-person scouting or stealing signs is out in the open. It’s up to teams to adjust now. If they can’t, that’s their problem.
Sign-stealing is a common thing in college football. It’s happened to Michigan, just like it has just about every program. That’s why we should be using radios in helmets and why you need to be changing up your signs all the time in college football.
The narrative that Michigan football couldn’t have beaten Ohio State without that is silly. The Wolverines physically dominated them twice. Knowing the signs wouldn’t have made any difference.
So the best thing Michigan football can do down the stretch is let their play on the field do the talking and as Jim Harbaugh said after the Michigan State win, “Make it so loud you can’t even hear what anyone is saying.”
That’s the mission and it starts this coming Saturday against Purdue.
