Michigan’s Wolverines have received bad news.

Rod Moore, the starting safety for Michigan football, is sidelined for the first three games of the season.

Eight players are classified as “out” by U-M for its game against Bowling Green (7:30 p.m., Big Ten Network) on its pregame availability report, including Moore, an All-Big Ten honorable mention from a season ago.

In addition, Cameron Brandt, an edge rusher, Benjamin Hall and CJ Stokes, wide receiver Darrius Clemons, safety Zeke Berry, and cornerbacks Ja’Den McBurrows and Amorion Walker will not be playing for U-M.

Both starter safety Makari Paige and standout sophomore cornerback Will Johnson were rated as “questionable”. While Johnson missed the first game due to a knee surgery in the offseason, he managed to play eight snaps against the Rebels in Week 2 despite Paige’s absence.

SCOUTING REPORT AND PREDICTION: Bowling Green will be faced by recognizable faces in Michigan football.

Jack Tuttle, the backup quarterback, is also marked as doubtful. On the first play of his Michigan career last week, the Indiana transfer—who last year backed up current Bowling Green starter Connor Bazelak with IU—took a late hit out of bounds.

Additionally marked as questionable are wide receiver Payton O’Leary, defensive back German Green, and running back Tavierre Dunlap.

Sherrone Moore, the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, will take over as head coach while Jim Harbaugh serves the last game of his three-game suspension imposed by the university. The NCAA is still looking into the U-M coach for several Level II recruiting violations as well as one Level I violation in which he was found to have “misled investigators” during the investigation into the Level II infractions.
