The Philadelphia Eagles sacked coach

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was asked on Monday about the injury status of a trio of Birds, including defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who left Sunday’s win over the Commanders with a back injury and was scheduled to undergo an MRI this morning.

It sounds like all three players — the others are TE Grant Calcaterra (concussion) and right guard Cam Jurgens (foot) — at least have a shot at playing this weekend against

“Obviously every person that has a head injury we’ll give the ultimate care to,” Sirianni said, referring to Calcaterra, who has a history of concussions. “That’s not something we mess around with. Their longterm health is more important to me than winning a football game, to be quite honest with you. So with [Calcaterra] and his history, we’re going to do our due diligence like we do with every player and to be quite honest with you, and then some. Just because of his history and we care about our guys. We’ll see where that is.

“Cam is eligible this week. He’s done a good job of rehabbing. The trainers, can’t say enough about our trainers and our strength staff, the doctors that we have. So he’s done a good job of putting himself in position to see if he can play this week. Obviously there’s a lot that has to go on this week for us to feel comfortable with that. So, we’re hopeful. That doesn’t mean I’m saying one way or the other — I don’t know. But we’re hopeful that he can start practicing this week, but we’ll see.

“Jalen feels better today, I’ll say that. We want to get him out in the field to see where he is, but he feels better today. That’s a tribute to him getting here and getting treatment and also our trainers. And so, obviously, all very important parts of our football team. Their health is first and foremost and I won’t put a timeline on them but if they’re ready to go they’ll go.”

That’s about as good of news as Eagles fans could hope for, especially with regard to their star rookie defensive tackle, as they kick off Dallas Week in Philly.

Flying high after their blowout win against the Los Angeles Rams, the last thing Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wants to talk about was this Sunday’s game against the Eagles.

“Let’s soak this one up,” Jones told reporters Sunday when asked if it was too early to talk about the upcoming Birds game. “I don’t want to do anything to poke the bear.”

Jones said he learned to keep his lips tight after the Cowboys’ blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5 after Dallas coaches and players built up its importance.

“I’ve made every mistake talking about it too early or two late that you could make,” Jones said. “Yeah, I learned from that one.”

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott didn’t believe it at first when reporters relayed Jones’ comment. Then he had his own response as the team prepares to play the Eagles at the Linc.

“Pour honey on me, I always say that,” Prescott told reporters after being informed.” If you see me and a bear in a fight, pour honey on me.”
