Los Angeles Rams coach has been fired

When word of quarterback Matthew Stafford’s hurting thumb reached Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay, he was terrified, but in a good way.

“Hopefully, it was just a good scare,” added McVay.

Stafford was diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb after being injured in the Dallas Cowboys’ 43-20 thrashing on Sunday. X-rays confirmed that there was no fracture.

Stafford’s thumb (on this throwing hand) made contact with a defender’s helmet, causing the discomfort. Stafford’s injury was exacerbated when he later caught a pass on a two-point convert.

Matthew Stafford injury: Rams QB has UCL sprain, is day-to-day

When Stafford left the game in the third quarter, some believed it was the end of an era for the Rams, who had lost three of their previous four games. McVay put those fears to rest when he described Stafford’s condition as “day-to-day.”

Stafford, 35, isn’t out of the woods yet, and the Rams are notorious for making wild guesses about when their injured players will be able to return. Stafford will almost certainly miss this week’s game against the Green Bay Packers.
